persimmons on a yellow background

I probably shouldn't admit to this, but there are days when I don't really leave the house. Unless work or errands take me outside, I can pretty easily cosy up inside until - whoops! - it's night. Especially these days, when the temperature hovers around a frigid twenty-five degrees or so. I will, though, don my puffer coat and big, plush-lined duck boots in order to take a little field trip out to the backyard to gather firewood; just long enough to fill my lungs with cold air and make the tip of my nose tingle before I head back inside. To where the light is clear and the shadows are long - just like out back - but also where the fire is crackling in the little wood stove. And there's probably a pumpkin baking in the oven.
